Three years of buying cheap linen, never again
I have owned four linen duvet covers from four different brands, so I feel qualified to be picky. The first thing you notice is the weight. It’s a mid-weight linen, heavier than the airy gauze some brands sell, which means it doesn’t float off the bed or feel see-through, but it’s nowhere near as stiff as the heavy Belgian linen I tried last winter. It sits flat over a down insert and doesn’t slide around. Second, the stitching. French seams on the inside, so there are no raw edges fraying after a few washes, and the button closure has a deep placket so you can’t see the insert peeking through. The corner ties are fabric, not ribbon, and they’re long enough to double-knot. Third, the color. I ordered Stone after seeing it in person at a friend’s place. It shifts between warm grey and putty depending on the light, and it looks great with both white and charcoal sheets. Only nitpick: it comes very creased from the packaging, so plan to wash it before the first night. After one warm wash and a low tumble dry it was perfect. I’ve already ordered a second one in Oat for the guest room.
